Huawei AP Access Switch Interface Settings
Configure access switch ports with proper PVID, management VLAN, and service VLAN to ensure APs communicate correctly with the AC and forward user traffic efficiently.
Key Concepts
Management VLAN: Transmits control and management packets from APs to the Access Controller (AC) through CAPWAP tunnels. By default, AP management packets are untagged, and the access switch adds VLAN tags. The PVID of the switch port connected to an AP should match the management VLAN ID to avoid misrouting management traffic . Service VLAN: Carries user data traffic from end devices connected to the AP. Service VLANs can be forwarded through the AC (tunnel mode) or directly to the network (direct forwarding mode) depending on the deployment . PVID (Port VLAN ID): Determines the default VLAN tag for untagged packets entering a switch port. For APs, the PVID should match the management VLAN to ensure proper CAPWAP communication .

- Access Mode (Single VLAN): Use for APs that only need a management VLAN.

AP Online Parameter Configuration
- Configure APs centrally via the AC to assign AP name, group, IP address, gateway, and AC IP list .
- Ensure the AP's static IP or DHCP-assigned IP is reachable from the AC.
- CAPWAP tunnels require the management VLAN to be correctly configured on both the AP and switch port.
Best Practices
- Always match the PVID of the switch port to the AP management VLAN to prevent APs from losing connectivity.
- Use trunk or hybrid ports if multiple SSIDs or VLANs are required.
