The connection from a distribution box to switches involves routing the phase and neutral wires from the main MCB through protective devices like RCCBs to individual switches, ensuring proper neutral and earth connections.
Basic Wiring Layout
- Main Supply to Distribution Box: The incoming phase and neutral wires from the energy meter or main supply are connected to the main MCB or isolator in the distribution box. This acts as the main switch for the system and allows manual disconnection of power .
- Protective Devices: From the main MCB, the phase wire is routed to an RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) for protection against leakage currents and electric shocks. The neutral wire is connected to a neutral link to distribute neutral to all circuits .
- Branch Circuit Connections: Each switch or load is connected to the distribution box via individual MCBs (Miniature Circuit Breakers). The phase wire from the RCCB output is connected to the input terminal of each MCB, and the output of the MCB goes to the corresponding switch or load .
- Switch Wiring: From the MCB output, a wire is routed to the incoming terminal of the switch. The switch then controls the flow of electricity to the connected load. The neutral wire from the neutral link is connected directly to the load, bypassing the switch .
- Earth Connection: All metallic parts of the distribution box, switches, and loads are connected to the earth terminal to ensure safety .
Wiring Direction and Organization
- Left-to-Right Wiring: Inside the distribution box, wiring from the main circuit breaker to branch MCBs is generally routed on the left, while wiring going out to switches and loads is routed on the right .
- Wire Binding: Wires should be neatly bound with plastic ties, spaced uniformly, and kept straight to avoid tangling and ensure safety .
- Marking: Clearly mark AC, DC, or different voltage levels to prevent confusion during maintenance .
