Color sequence of 48-core steel wire optical cable

A 48-core optical cable uses the TIA-598-C 12-color sequence repeated across four buffer tubes, with each fiber inside the tube following the same 12-color order.

Standard 12-Color Sequence

The TIA-598-C standard defines the following 12 colors for individual fibers:

  1. Blue
  2. Orange
  3. Green
  4. Brown
  5. Slate (Gray)
  6. White
  7. Red
  8. Black
  9. Yellow
  10. Violet
  11. Rose (Pink)
  12. Aqua

Application to 48-Core Cable

For a 48-core cable, the fibers are typically organized into four buffer tubes, each containing 12 fibers. Each tube is assigned a distinct tube color (commonly Blue, Orange, Green, Brown) to differentiate the groups. Inside each tube, the fibers follow the standard 12-color sequence.

Example Mapping

  • Tube 1 (Blue Tube): Fiber 1–12 → Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate, White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose, Aqua
  • Tube 2 (Orange Tube): Fiber 13–24 → Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate, White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose, Aqua
  • Tube 3 (Green Tube): Fiber 25–36 → Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate, White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose, Aqua
  • Tube 4 (Brown Tube): Fiber 37–48 → Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate, White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose, Aqua This system ensures that each fiber has a unique identification by combining the tube color and the fiber color within the tube. For example, Fiber #34 would be the 10th fiber (Violet) in the 3rd tube (Green) .

Notes

  • For cables exceeding 12 fibers, the 12-color sequence repeats in each tube, sometimes with black stripes to maintain uniqueness in very high-count cables .
  • Tube colors may vary slightly depending on manufacturer, but the internal fiber sequence remains consistent with TIA-598-C.
  • This color-coding system simplifies installation, splicing, and maintenance, reducing errors in high-density optical networks . By following this scheme, technicians can quickly identify and manage fibers in a 48-core steel wire optical cable, ensuring accurate connections and efficient network deployment.
