Optical modules commonly use metals such as copper, gold, aluminum, and sometimes stainless steel in their housings, connectors, and internal assemblies.

Housing and Structural Metals

The outer casing of optical modules, including the Transmitter Optical Sub-Assembly (TOSA) and Receiver Optical Sub-Assembly (ROSA), is often made from metal or metal alloys to provide mechanical strength, electromagnetic shielding, and thermal dissipation. Aluminum and stainless steel are frequently used for their lightweight, corrosion resistance, and heat conduction properties, while some modules may use nickel-plated metals for enhanced durability and shielding .
