Pre-Installation Considerations
Before embedding a distribution box, ensure that civil construction work is complete, including wall finishing, ceiling work, and floor leveling. Inspect and confirm that foundation steel, embedded conduits, and cable trenches are properly installed and accepted as qualified. For surface-mounted boxes, ensure walls are ready for mounting, and for flush-mounted boxes, verify that reserved holes and conduits for wiring are correctly positioned and inspected .
Installation Height and Position
- The bottom edge of the distribution box should be approximately 1.5 meters from the ground, while the installation board should not be less than 1.8 meters from the ground .
- The box must be level and vertical, with deviations not exceeding 3mm, and the panel edges should align with the wall surface without protruding or being recessed .
- For boxes wider than 500mm, a concrete lintel should be installed on top; for widths over 300mm, a reinforced brick lintel is recommended to prevent structural pressure on the box .
Structural and Material Requirements
- The outer wall of the box in contact with the wall should be coated with anti-corrosion paint .
- Boxes should be made of non-combustible materials, and the cover should fit flush with the wall with intact coatings .
- For wall-mounted boxes, use expansion bolts or embedded dovetail/split bolts for secure fixing .
Wiring and Electrical Safety
- Use copper core insulated wires with appropriate cross-sectional areas: at least 2.5mm² for current circuits and 1.5mm² for other circuits .
- Maintain neat wiring, separate circuits of different voltage levels, and avoid twisting or damaging wire cores.
- Each terminal should have no more than two wires, with anti-loosening washers applied .
- Include protection devices such as breakers, fuses, and surge protective devices (SPD), ensuring proper grounding and short, straight connections .
Grounding and Safety
- Connect the PE bar inside the box to the protective conductor reliably. Doors with electrical devices should be connected to the grounding terminal using yellow-green insulated copper flexible wire with a minimum cross-section of 4mm² .
- Ensure mechanical interlocking, relay adjustments, and high-voltage tests are performed according to local power supply regulations .
Installation Procedure
- Disassemble the box cover and panel if installation is delayed, and store components carefully to prevent damage .
- Embed the box in the wall, ensuring it is level and supported to prevent damage from wall load .
- Knock out holes as needed for wiring and fix the box securely.
- Fill surrounding gaps with cement mortar to stabilize the box .
- Perform visual checks and multimeter tests before powering on to ensure proper installation and safety .
Maintenance and Labeling
- Label all circuits clearly and consider modular designs for easier future upgrades .
