  3. Configuration and Software Problems Mismatched ONU serial numbers, incorrect passwords, or inconsistent OLT/ONU configurations can prevent ONUs from authenticating and going online. Software version incompatibility between OLT and ONU may also lead to PON port failures or service degradation .
  4. Environmental and Operational Factors Excessive temperature, poor ventilation, or voltage fluctuations can degrade optical modules or boards. Overheating may trigger alarms or cause single-board crashes, while voltage spikes can damage laser diodes or photodetectors .
