   • Connect each router to the switch or directly to separate ONT ports if available.

3. Router Cascading:
   • Connect the WAN port of a second router to a LAN port of the first router.
   • The first router acts as the primary gateway, while the second router extends the network or creates a separate subnet .
   • This method is simpler for home networks but does not provide independent public IPs for each router.

Practical Considerations

• IP Addressing: Ensure each router or subnet has unique IP ranges to avoid conflicts. Point-to-point links with /30 subnets are often used for routing between routers .
• Fiber Type and Connectors: Use compatible fiber types (single-mode or multi-mode) and connectors (SC/APC, SC/UPC, LC) to match your ONT and router ports .
• Performance: High-quality Ethernet cables (Cat6a or higher) and proper cable management are essential to maintain fiber speeds and minimize signal loss .
• ISP Coordination: Some ISPs require provisioning for multiple public IPs or may limit the number of devices connected directly to the ONT.
