Excessive attenuation can lead to slow speeds, intermittent connectivity, or complete signal loss, making it a critical concern in both long-haul and short-reach networks .

2. Physical Damage to Fiber Cables

Fiber optic cables are sensitive to cuts, sharp bends, or crushing, which can disrupt the light path. Environmental factors like temperature extremes, moisture ingress, or rodent damage can also compromise cable integrity.
