Kazakhstan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Clearbrook Energy Solutions (CES) and AG-Tech to establish a Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) manufacturing and assembly plant in the country. The project, valued at USD 350 million, aims to localize advanced energy storage technologies and integrate digital energy management systems, supporting Kazakhstan's energy security and digital infrastructure development. Clearbrook will provide the technology for energy storage and virtual power plants, while AG-Tech will handle localization and digital integration .
Kazakhstan is also pursuing grid-scale BESS deployments in collaboration with international partners. Notably, Masdar and the sovereign wealth fund Samruk-Kazyna plan to develop 500MW of baseload renewable energy backed by BESS, alongside 2GW of additional storage across the country. These projects aim to stabilize intermittent renewable sources like wind and solar, reduce reliance on coal and gas, and enhance dispatchable clean energy capacity .
The country has hosted conferences such as BESS 2025 and events at Nazarbayev University, bringing together government officials, technology providers, and investors to discuss integration of BESS into Kazakhstan's Unified Power System.
