Outer Jacket Color Requirements

The outer jacket color is the first visual indicator of fiber type and mode:

  • Single-mode fibers (OS1/OS2): Yellow jacket
  • Multimode fibers:
    • OM1/OM2: Orange
    • OM3/OM4: Aqua
    • OM4 (sometimes high-performance variant): Violet
    • OM5: Lime green These colors allow technicians to quickly distinguish fiber types and prevent mismatched connections in high-density or mixed-mode environments .

Inner Fiber Color Sequence

Individual fibers within multi-fiber cables are color-coded using a 12-color repeating sequence for easy identification:
