Core Switches

Core switches operate at the network backbone or core layer, handling large volumes of traffic with minimal latency. They are typically Layer 3 switches with high bandwidth, numerous ports, and advanced management capabilities. Core switches provide:

  • High throughput and low latency for fast data forwarding
  • Redundancy and fault tolerance through features like HSRP, VRRP, and redundant power supplies
  • Support for VLANs and QoS to prioritize critical traffic and manage congestion
