Fiber optics replaced copper and coaxial cables in backbone networks due to higher bandwidth, minimal signal loss, and immunity to electromagnetic interference . Today, fiber supports voice, video, internet, and telemetry, as well as applications in medical imaging, defense, and sensing technologies . Researchers have achieved record bandwidth-distance products exceeding 100 petabit × kilometers per second, highlighting fiber's capacity for future high-speed communication .
