How to install a lightning rod in a distribution box

- Connect the down conductor to the grounding bus bar of the distribution box.
- Install a whole-house surge arrester at the main circuit breaker or individual surge arresters at sensitive equipment to prevent voltage spikes from damaging electrical devices .
- Ensure the connection is tight, corrosion-resistant, and compliant with local electrical codes.
- Grounding: Drive a ground rod or bury a ground plate near the distribution box. The grounding system should have low resistance (ideally below 10 ohms) and be bonded to all metallic parts of the structure to prevent side flashes .
- Safety and Compliance: Follow national and local standards such as NFPA 780 or UL 96A. Avoid mixing copper and aluminum without proper connectors to prevent galvanic corrosion . Only qualified electricians should perform the installation to ensure safety and maintain insurance coverage.
