Bhutanese Standard Requirements for Distribution Box Sizes
Distribution boxes in Bhutan are generally required to meet specifications for material, protection, and configuration, including IP-55 protection, reinforced GI sheet construction, and proper bus bar and earthing arrangements.
Material and Construction
- Distribution boxes should be fabricated from 2 mm galvanized iron (GI) sheet steel for durability and outdoor suitability .
- The body must have sufficient reinforcement with channels to support the structure and allow secure fixing of components .
- The roof should be slightly slanting with a 50 mm overhang at the front and back to prevent water ingress .
Protection and Security
- Boxes must conform to IP-55 degree of protection, ensuring resistance to dust and water jets .
- Locking arrangements should use a Godrej-type 3-position locking system, with additional galvanized manual locks to prevent rusting .
- Door hinges should be concealed from the outside for security and aesthetic purposes .
Electrical Configuration
- Bus bars must be arranged to provide adequate clearance from the box body, following applicable I.E. rules for low-tension supply .
- Provision for one bus bar arrangement with a 4-pole MCCB for all LTDB capacities is required, along with one outgoing feeder arrangement with 2 sets of 3-pole MCCBs .
- Earthing points: Two solid earthing points should be provided on either side of the box .
Additional Considerations
- Preference is given to boxes with insulators fixed on suitable arrangements for safety and reliability .
- Type test certificates for IP-55 compliance from CPRI or government-approved laboratories are required for procurement .
